Support Independent Journalism in Haiti
The need for strong independent voices in Haiti is greater than ever. Here is your chance to support the work of a young Haitian photojournalist whose work is appearing on HaitiAnalysis.com and other media important to the struggle for democracy.
Wadner Pierre has been living and working with Father Gerard Jean-Juste for the last ten years. For the last two years, he has been reporting and photographing important human rights issues in Haiti. He brings to the world information and analysis directly from Haiti’s poor, something absent in the mainstream media. Wadner makes do with the resources available - he has published photos in magazines, newspapers and on websites that he took with his point-and-shoot camera. But he could take better photographs that would have a stronger impact if he had a better camera. For example, Wadner’s photos below were taken with a professional camera loaned to him by Canadian photographer Darren Ell during their recent time together in Haiti. Right now, Darren Ell and the Institute for Justice & Democracy in Haiti are trying to raise $1000 US to upgrade Wadner to a high-quality digital camera that will serve him in the years to come.To do so, they are selling photographs made by Darren and Wadner in Haiti over the last year. 8 x10 prints of each of the photos below are selling for $25 US ($30 Canadian), shipping included.
