Caracas- A group of social grassroots fighters from Haíti held a meeting in the Venezuelan Ministry of People’s Power for Education (MPPE) to request support in order to eradicate illiteracy in that country, which affects about 60% of the population.

The Haitian delegates, who had visited Venezuela last August 22nd to attend the First Meeting of the Haitian Diaspora, were welcomed by the Education Development Vice-Minister, Gisela Toro, along with the General Director of Samuel Robinson foundation, Zully Hernández and Multilateral Organism Chair of the Education Ministry, Marisela Rojas.

The Haitian spokesman was Henry Boisrolin, who explained that the Haitian Diaspora is taking place in Caracas in order to discuss about the needs of the Haitian people, which is now under military occupation. “The Haitians are suffering from a terrible economic situation, where most of the people live in subhuman conditions.”

The Haitian spokesman stressed the importance of including the social groups from the excluding sectors. “These people will not betray and the literacy campaign will progress in different aspects such as the training of national and liberation values.”

Boisrolin said that they will make all their effort to carry out the project with the support of the Venezuelan government.“We do not want a mechanism transfer but an orientation to act according to the needs of the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zully Hernández announced a group of experts from Venezuela and Cuba is in Haiti to coordinate, along with the Haitian experts, the literacy campaign and specially to define the language, which will probably be in creole, the language spoken by the Haitian population.

In the meantime, Gisela Toro said, “Venezuela carries out the Robinson mission in those countries that required this education social mission, such as Bolivia and Nicaragua. Haiti will not be an exception.”
